Running Records
For those who participate in various running events, running records are of great importance in showing what the industry as an entirety is doing. A running record is a measure of an athlete's ability to win the races and to keep up with the competition. Certainly, these records are of little use to the amateur athlete or one who is interested in running only for the pure enjoyment of it.
A running world record is important to all those who work hard to achieve a running world record for their performance. For the professional athlete, it's important that running world records be maintained and reviewed for each race that follows. Running records are the only way a professional athlete has to measure their improvement, so even records of local races are important in maintaining that level of acceptance of their own abilities. After all, if there is no improvement after each race, then a runner is going to fail to have the need to exceed the last race, and like anyone else, he or she will lose the momentum to continue to improve.
Olympic running records are kept for each subsequent year even though the same runner may not participate each time. This worldwide event is sometimes responsible for putting new runners in the front line toward the achievement of worldwide acclaim. For many, the move to worldwide acclaim is what pushes them in the direction of achieving world running records. For many, great pride exists in achieving the 50m run world record or the world record for the 200-meter run.
Running records also exist for the 100m world record. Of course, one must combine those with the local records in order to get an accurate picture of the individual runner's skill and agility. Though winning the world record for the 1km run is admirable, it is the continued wins that will determine if a runner has the stamina to be a professional for the long-term. The ability to continue racing and winning, or at least putting out his or her best effort, is what will make a runner a true success in the world of running.
Running records do not begin with the Olympics for most runners, but at home in high school or college. It is those local wins that gives the runner the boost that he or she needs to reach for something more. It is the local wins that will drive the runner to reach for worldwide fame and that will drive him to reach for the highest star.
