New York City Marathon

As far as prestigious marathons go, nothing beats the New York City Marathon. It has been the largest race in the world with over 37,866 finishers in the 2006 New York Marathon. This is an unprecedented number because of how hard any marathon is, let alone the New York Marathon. If you'd like to run in the NYC marathon, there are some things that you should know ahead of time.

Marathons are very hard, and the New York Marathon is no exception. Classic marathons, this included, are just over 26 miles long. The New York marathon route goes through all of the five boroughs that make up the creative landscape that is New York City. Because of this, the runners get an up close and personal look at what it's like to live in New York. They go through all of the neighborhoods and see what it is really like in this famous city. This is especially the case because most of the runners running in the New York City Marathon course map are from out of town or out of the country.

Before starting the race, you should have a good look at the New York City Marathon map. This map will detail the entire route of the race so that you know what you're getting into. During a period before the race, there will be many New York City Marathon posters up in strategic locations in the city. These New York Marathon posters will also have a small map of the route of the race along with the New York Marathon logo. You can use this just in case you failed to get an official map when you signed up. It is wise to travel the route by car a few days or weeks ahead of time if you wish to complete the race and be on the New York City Marathon results page of the website. The New York Marathon results will usually be up several days after the completion of the competition. If you've given your entrance fee for the New York Marathon, then you're good to go.

If you are unsure of your abilities, you can always enter the New York half marathon. This is a shorter course that is good for novices and first timers. If you want more practice, running in the half marathon would be your best bet. You'll gain experience there.
